What is SUP? |
Trina writes, "As I sit down and write this blog, I hear the waves crashing and the seagulls squawking. Sunny Santa Cruz California, my home town. There is not a shortage of exercise capabilities here; surfing, paddle boarding, skating, bicycling, swimming, running, walking, outdoor BootCamps and CrossFit alike. One particular water sport that has gained popularity everywhere, including Boise, is paddle boarding or SUP (Stand Up and Paddle). Invented in the 1930s, SUP experienced a renaissance in the 1980s and is now making a comeback. "

Health and fitness experts all over the world are quickly catching up with the outstanding cross-training benefits of SUP, with several personal trainers incorporating the sport into their training sessions. The stand up paddling encompasses both core and proprioceptive muscle actions, and utilizes the entire body functional approach to building core, balance, and support. SUP is a great sport for all levels, including those who are in need of some rehabilitative exercises. SUP is also great for those who have experienced back pain.
Our Boise Greenbelt provides year-round access to this outdoor sport. At the Idaho Paddle Board and SUP Center at Boise River Park, you have access to kayaks, SUP, classes, personal trainers, social paddles, and more. They offer certified SUP instructors who are focused on teaching safety and enjoyment for all levels of paddlers. Check out www.IdahoPaddleBoarding.com for information on how you can grab a lesson (for $35) or rent paddle boards by the hour. If you are looking for something new to add to your fitness routine or just want to beat the heat give SUPing a try.
