Family Wellness Challenge: Drink More Water |
emilyb writes, "Forming good habits doesn't happen overnight. It is important to start slow and build a good foundation for your family to build on. If you dedicate your energy and set the intention for a healthy lifestyle, you will effortlessly pass these benefits on to your children.
Each month I will offer a family wellness challenge. These challenges will focus on simple steps that you and your family can concentrate on for the month which are easy to incorporate into your busy life. "

Did you know that by adding more healthy foods and drinks to your diet earlier in the day, you will naturally leave less room and desire for unhealthy foods? Fill a bottle with clean, fresh water and sip it throughout the morning. You will have less room for coffee and soft drinks. The body is 75% water and it is critical to our survival. Maintaining proper hydration will prevent premature aging and plump up your skin, eliminate headaches, promote weight loss and increase your energy. For children, drinking water will help their focus in school and on the sports field, as well as promote proper growth.
My challenge to you is to experiment with water this month and make it taste delicious. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
* Add cucumber slices
* A squeeze of orange and a few strawberry slices
* A few drops of flavored liquid stevia like root beer and vanilla with sparkling water
* Shredded ginger and lemon
* Apple cider vinegar and honey
* Lime juice, stevia and fresh mint (my 8 year old son's favorite!)
Maybe pick up a new water bottle for each member of the family to make it even more fun. Set aside the money you were spending on juice boxes, diet soda, energy drinks, coffee, and vitamin-enriched waters and treat your family to something special instead. To motivate the kids, use the money for a new family game or a family outing.
Email me your favorite way to increase your family's water consumption. I will award a prize to the best idea! eattothrivehealth@yahoo.com
