Foam Rolling |
Trina writes, "Have your knees ached? Is your lower back tight? Are your hips stiff? A simple tool that costs less than $30 may be your cure. The foam roller is a fantastic tool that just may relieve you of your aches and pains. The foam roller not only stretches muscles and tendons but it also breaks down soft tissue. By using your own body weight and the cylinder shape roller, you can perform a self-massage and break up those trigger points all the while smoothing tight muscle tissue and increasing blood flow and circulation."

Foam rolling can help you increase flexibility. By foam rolling before or after a workout or just after a long day at the office this simple routine of rolling out your tight areas such as your hips and low back can increase flexibility and reduce the risk of injury later on.
Foam rolling can decrease tension and stress. By rolling out the knots the tension that is built up in the connective tissues, it can relieve stress by increasing blood flow to that area. Decreasing the neck and posture muscles that happen from sitting too long at the office will make the desk posture blues go away.
One of the most important reasons for a regular foam-rolling routine is to prevent those often too common exercise-related injuries. Many runners and CrossFitters, for example, become painfully well acquainted with their IT band if they don't take care to massage the band of tissue. IT band syndrome and other similar flare-ups can be caused by too-tight muscles. Foam rolling every day ensures you are massaging away fascia buildup in your muscles, in order to help prevent those areas from becoming injury trigger points.
If you have a foam roller but don't know how to use it - be sure to stop by and I can assist you.
