Family Wellness Challenge for July: Buy Local! |
emilyb writes, "With the local growing season in full swing, getting our daily dose of fruits and vegetables is easier than ever. Eagle Saturday Market, local Eagle Farms and even roadside stands are extraordinary sources for the best and most nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables. Plus local foods just taste better! We are so fortunate to live in an area with abundant local foods to choose from. Not sure where to find it all? Here are few places to get started:"
|
July Blueberries - The owner Jay Camp said the berries are looking great. Blueberry picking started June 27th, and runs about five to six weeks. Call them for an appointment at 938-7920.
Kelso Farm - At this local Eagle farm you can take your family and pick up not only fresh produce, but eggs, chicken, grass fed beef, lamb and pork. They offer several meat variety packs and you can learn more at http://kelsofarm.com/.
Evenstar Farm - They care deeply about the health of our environment and are passionate about providing nutrient dense and non-toxic foods to our community. They have a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. Learn more at http://www.evenstarfarm.net/. Other local CSA programs can be found at http://www.localharvest.org.
Eagle Saturday Market - Lots of local vendors with a variety of produce, meat and eggs to choose from. Getting kids to try new foods can be a challenge. At the market, let your child choose something that he or she has never tasted before. Your child is more likely to experiment with new foods if given some control over what is selected.
Barnucopia - This Eagle natural foods grocer offers a variety of local produce, dairy, eggs and meat.
Nanabeez Farms - No produce for sale, but they do offer farm fresh eggs, chicken, beef and pork. Learn more at http://nanabeezfarms.com/.
So your challenge this month is to eat fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, eggs and meats whenever possible and get the most nutrition and flavor onto your plate and support our Eagle farmers!
What is your favorite source for local food? If you know of someone I've missed, please share!
